Universalmente famoso, tradotto in quasi tutte le lingue
del mondo, questo inno, che gli schiavi neri appresero
dai loro padroni bianchi e dagli evangelizzatori, fu composto
proprio da un ex commerciante di schiavi convertitosi
al cristianesimo. Figura attualmente nel repertorio di
tutti i cori ed i solisti di gospel ed è paradossalmente
diventato il più "nero" degli inni religiosi
di origine europea. |
